MemoriAL, the interdisciplinary network of memory studies in Latin America was formed thanks to the initiative of professors and doctoral students of the Free University of Berlin, the University of the Andes, Bogota, the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich, Bonn University, the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, Potsdam University and the University of Konstanz.

Our discussions have mainly focused on, first, the reflection and challenges involved in the interdisciplinary research of memory studies, second, the singularities and similarities of the construction and study of Latin American memory, and finally, the transnational relationships between these experiences and the role that they play in a global context.

We organize a workshop every two years, and once a month we meet for a jour fixe, where we discuss pre-selected reading related to memory studies and/or specific Latin American cases. MemoriAL is part of the advisory board of the Memory Studies Association.
